“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” – 1 Tim 2:1-4

On this day, Wednesday 20th January, 2021, Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United State of America, let us give thanks to God for making this day a reality. As we give thanks to God for the end of President Donald Trump’s tenure, let us pray that the new President Joe Biden and the new Vice President Kamala Harris will follow after God’s own heart and serve a good purpose in healing, approximating justice, and maintaining order in America and the world in general (Rom.13). As Biden cited his faith in his recent speeches, he quoted from St Francis of Assisi to the hymn “On Eagle’s Wings.” The Bible makes it very clear what it means to be “On Eagle’s Wings,”

The Bible says in Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” An ‘Eagle is meant to fly in an atmosphere that is unlimited. The Eagle in this context is an image of God, the Divine Eagle Himself, soaring above…the Almighty God of the Universe, “As an eagle that stirs up her nest, that flutters over her young, He spread abroad His wings and he took them, He bore them on His pinions….he scanned him penetratingly and kept him as the pupil of His eye” (Deut 32:1-4). For the new President Biden and the new Vice President Harris, God’s desire is that they operate and function in an unrestricted domain with their God’ given potentials, gifts, skills and abilities. Let us pray for them that they will not be limited in their thoughts and mind because mounting up with wings as Eagle starts in the mind.

Let us join Father Leo J. O’Donovan, a Jesuit priest and spiritual mentor to the new president Biden as he offer the invocation at the start of the service today and Rev. Silvester Beaman, a friend and confidant to Biden, as he give the benediction at the end. Let us join O’Donovan to pray for God’s blessing on the new president, Biden before he swears to uphold the Constitution. Let us join Beaman to pray for strength and good health for Biden and Harris because there’s work to be done.

Let us pray and ask God to restore a sense of leadership and fill the void and divisions Trump had left. The January 6 Insurrection and political polarization of Covid-19, driven primarily by the misinformation propagated by Trump, has hampered the ability of public health authorities to convince the public to wear masks, socially distance, and make other sacrifices as the best means of beating back the virus. Let us pray for America with the hope that the worst is finally behind them.

O Lord, give Biden and Harris the wings of eagle to soar into your place of nourishment, fulfilment in Jesus Name.

O Lord give Biden and Harris the wings of eagle to soar into divine understanding and to receive uncommon wisdom for uncommon achievement in Jesus Name.

O Lord, give Biden and Harris the wings of eagle to soar into divine grace to overcome limitations, Covid-19, setbacks, failures, disappointments, poverty, stagnations and struggles in Jesus Name.

O Lord, according to your word written in 2 Kings 7:1,we receive the eagle eyes of Elisha for Biden and Harris to foresee situations that will make them to lead and act like Elisha did and things will get better accordingly to the set time in Jesus Name. Let us prayerfully join Biden and Harris to sing the song:

On Eagle’s Wings

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
who abide in his shadow for life,
say to the Lord: “My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!”

And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.

The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear:
under his wings your refuge,
his faithfulness your shield.

And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.

You need not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come.

And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.

For to his angels he’s given a command
to guard you in all of your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.
