John Wesley provides a guide on voting as a Christian. He advised, “To vote, without fee or reward, for the person they judged most worthy. To speak no evil of the person, they voted against, and To take care their spirits were not sharpened against those that voted on the other side.” Voting for a new person to lead the country is a monumental moment, and even if it is not the candidate you voted for, it is important to pray to God for good and honest leadership.

As Christians, we are called to pray for our leaders and those in authority over us. Whether you agree with or like the President, God commands us to honour the position with prayer and respect. Therefore, prayer for His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential Inauguration is to seek God’s guidance for our nation.

Let us take a few moments through May 29, 2023, to bring our President-elect and his wife, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed, and Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu before the God of the universe. Lord of Heaven and the Earth, thank you for our dear country, NIGERIA. We pray for mercy and forgiveness for our personal and corporate sins. Let us pray that God would make His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu a unifying and prosperous presidency to bring our difference as a people together. Let us pray that God would make our President-elect, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a godly President to serve as God’s scepter in Nigeria, leading to becoming a shining beacon for the world which is cast in divisions and darkness. O Lord, make our President-elect a President with humility – an ability to reflect with a sober mind amid wise advisors in Jesus’ name.

We thank You for our President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Vice-President-elect, His Excellency Kashim Shettima. We pray for them, O Lord, to give them divine wisdom and robust health to lead this country in such as time as this. We pray they would serve and revere You in their words and actions. We humbly ask that You grant them grace to know how to unify our country (Prov 21:1).

We are facing immense challenges regarding youth unemployment, public health, financial hardship, economic shutdowns, tribal tensions, devastation from kidnapping, violence, and riots in the streets, and significant political division, among many other things. Our President-elect faces severe challenges and opportunities on the domestic and international fronts. Please grant him divine wisdom to navigate our country through the uncertain path that lies ahead in Jesus’ name.

“For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers” (Prov. 11:14). We lift the Vice President-elect and advisors to the President-elect. The Bible and history are examples of counsel to the king resulting in laws and decisions leading the entire nation toward peace and prosperity or division, destruction, and even collapse.

Let us pray that God would give His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu wisdom to surround himself with counselors in our country’s best interest. Grant them wisdom to advise the President-elect on the action he should take. We pray that You would surround His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with sound, wise counsel to direct him as he prepares to lead our nation.

Almighty God, there is much wisdom in the council. You teach us that a cord of three strands is not easily broken, and so too, is a multitude of opinions and input. Lord, You even have a divine council in Your heavenly courts. Therefore, give us wise counsel for His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Let him recruit worthy advisors and allies so that their plans can be executed to the best of their ability and that You may be glorified through their efforts in Nigeria. Amen.

Given their high profiles, keep His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed and Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu free from folly and scandal. Let them not step into traps set by wicked people or groups but exercise integrity and good judgment from a sound and pure mind. Lord, in Your mercy, hear my prayer. Amen.

O Lord God, leadership often requires an immense amount of courage. One can only be a good President if he can make courageous decisions when the stakes are the highest. Therefore, let us ask that God instill a firm resolve in His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. O Lord, give him the courage to confront unjust norms and customs. Protect him and his family from those who want to destroy them. O Lord, give him and his wife the armour of faith. Amen.

O Lord, we pray that His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential inauguration will represent a peaceful continuity of government in Jesus’ name. O Lord, build Nigeria so that our President-elect will not labour in vain (Ps 127:1; Lk 12:48). Give Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the vision of what You desire Nigeria to become and the wisdom and strength to accomplish it.

O Lord, help us as Nigerians to be reconciled first to You and second to each other so that the dream of a new and better Nigeria would come true in Jesus’ name.

Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.
